Front Cover Image!

The BearManor Media logo, ISBN, and price still need to be affixed, but this will be the front cover image for "Golden Goddesses" the book. I'd like to thank the creator, JSV Designs, and Joel Sussman once again for granting me permission to use this stunning photo of Serena for the book's cover image. Kudos also to Kenji for allowing me to use the beautiful photos of Marilyn Chambers and Kay Parker shown at the top of the front cover.

QUOTES FROM THE BOOK:

"I've had to deal with the bad side of it, and the good side of it. But I'm fine with it, today. I did make a name for myself, and I have a real good reputation in the business. They finally put me in the Hall of Fame." -- Rhonda Jo Petty

"The best thing that's ever happened to me is my daughter. To be a Mom is the best thing in the world. You know, that's all I really wanted to do after I had finished doing films." -- Marilyn Chambers

"The career was a part of my past that brought me to this point with wisdom and understanding." -- Kay Parker

"My thinking was, if the bottom line of the feminist movement is for women to choose whatever they want to do without repercussions, well, shit, that's what I'm doing. You should be cheering me on, not wagging your fingers at me." -- Gloria Leonard

"Back then, porn was kind of a rotten thing to do. You had to walk into a theater to watch porn because it wasn't on TV back then; it wasn't even on videotape. It was really a shocking thing to do porn which was part of the appeal for me." -- Sharon Mitchell

"The old saying goes, 'there is a new one at the bus stop every day who has run away.' There were a lot of runaways back then, too, but the people I worked with weren't like that. We were just a small group of people. Little did we know that they needed us a lot more than we needed them." -- Seka

"The most difficult part about the choice that I've made in my career is relationships with men. Those who are completely and absolutely accepting are not the ones you really want to be with. I meet men who want a relationship but they're swingers. When I'm in a relationship, I want to be monogamous." -- Ginger Lynn

"Unless a person has ever been a part of the industry, it is hard to understand us, but we share a connection that never ends." -- Laurie Holmes

CRITICS

"Golden Goddesses takes no shortcuts, profiling 25 actresses who risked it all during a time when participating in adult productions, was illegal. Each of Nelson's profiles is meticulous, the result of immeasurable research and the trust and friendship she built with her often reluctant subjects." -- Jessica Rose, Hamilton Magazine

"She doesn't just dictate and call it a day. Nelson is a skilled writer, and provides ongoing context for much of what is being said by her subjects. I found this book absolutely essential." -- Robin Bougie, Cinema Sewer Magazine

"There have been very few writers who have managed to write about this revolutionary era of cinema with such a level of respect, warmth and intelligence like Jill Nelson." -- Heather Drain, Film Writer, mondoheather.blogspot.com

"The layers which Nelson manages to peel back in order to expose the people behind the personas, is outstanding. Never before has a book tackled its subject with the grace and care which Nelson shows here." -- Ian Jane, rockshockpop.com

"Nelson's agenda-free approach is refreshing in that it allows for the full spectrum of experiences: good, bad, and in between. The project prompts questions, provokes critical thinking and opens up space for these women to truly voice themselves." -- Gore Gore Girl (XXX through feminist lens)

"The main attitudes that leap off the pages of Golden Goddesses are defiance, independence, originality and strength. Jill C. Nelson has served them up a fitting and powerful tribute with Golden Goddesses." -- Jeremy
Ritchie, Moon in the Gutter

"More intriguing than just a chronology of adult movies and its stars, is author Jill C. Nelson's literary perspective. Each story is carefully cultivated, highlighting each woman in intimate ways particular to her basic personality traits and sensibilities. It's a refreshing perspective because she isn't put off by their vulnerabilities and doesn't shy away from their brass." --
